I’m pretty sure a lot of you never thought about cooking a steak with coffee. This Kona Crusted Steak might seem a little weird, but why not give it a try and enjoy it like I did? Believe me, you won’t be disappointed at all.

Kona Crusted Steak

I made this Kona Crusted Steak after my husband suggested trying something new with our steaks. I spent a lot of time thinking and searching, and then I found this Kona Crusted Steak recipe.

The recipe caught my eye because it mixes coffee (Kona coffee) with the steak which was weird for me. So, I was so excited to try it, and just as I expected, it turned out delicious with that strong flavor of coffee.

I used the grilling method to make this Kona Crusted Steak, but I’ve seen lots of people cook it in a skillet with oil. Both methods work great, Just make sure to season the steak well and cook it to bring out that juicy taste, and also try to Serve it with your favorite side dish. I paired mine with Mexican cream cheese for dipping, which made the meal even cozier for me.

Kona Crusted Steak

Ingredients

  • 4 steaks (I used a New York strip)
  • 2 tablespoons ground Kona coffee
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional)

How to Make Kona Crusted Steak?

Step 1:

First, In a small bowl, add the ground coffee, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Try to stir everything together until all the dry ingredients are mixed really well.

Step 2:

First, take some paper towels and gently pat the steaks to make them dry. This is important so the coffee mixture sticks better. Next, take the coffee mix and rub it all over both sides of each steak. Press it down gently to make sure the crust stays on.

Step 3:

Put a large skillet on the stove, and turn the heat to medium-high. Pour in a little bit of oil, (Or you can grill the steaks as I did from time to time). Gently place the steaks in the hot pan. Let them cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then carefully flip them with tongs and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes. If you want the steak cooked longer, leave it a little longer.

Step 4:

If you want to make the steaks butterier, add some butter to the pan at the last minute of cooking. Once it melts, use a spoon to scoop the melted butter and pour it over the top of the steaks (I love this step).

Step 5:

Once the steaks are cooked the way you like, take them out of the pan and Enjoy.
